Over the year’s rugby has touch each of us differently. One of our current players who no longer goes by the title of Old Boy is Chip Stroebel. Chip has been playing rugby on and off for quite some time. He is well known amougst the older as well as younger players. Chip is never afraid to stick his head inside the ruck during the game or inside a pitcher at the party. Click here to read Chip’s account of his playing days with the Pigs as well as what rugby has meant to him over the years.

Last Saturday the 15th the Saint Paul Pigs took on the Banshees rugby team in their annual Spring game. It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon for rugby. The first half both found both teams pounding on each other between the 22’s. The Banshees found the try zone first and put up a 5-0 score. They followed with a second try and increase their lead to 12-0. The Pigs first try came from Scott Colby with a gallop down the side line. Colby followed with a second try through the middle of the Banshee back line to close the score. At half time the Banshees held a slight advantage over the Pigs. In the second half the heat caught up to the Pigs and they weren’t able to close the gap any further. Thanks to everyone who made it out and to those strong souls who stepped up to play both A and B side matches.
Great work to all the guys who made the trip down to Iowa this weekend for Rugby Daze. The Pigs opened their first match against the Minneapolis Mayhem. They were able to make quick work of the Mayhem with a variety of tries. The second match proved to be a bit more of a challenge. Although dominating most aspects of the match, the Pigs had difficulty getting the ball across the tri line and lost 10-5. That opened the our last match of the day against the Luther College team. The Pigs brought it all together and won in triumphant fashion.

Thanks to all the Pigs who made the trip to Sioux Falls over the weekend. The team hung strong, but with some depleated numbers did not come out victorious. Great job by all the step up in the evening to win the party.
Saturday May 1st the Pigs will be traveling to South Dakota to take on the Sioux Falls team in a huge border battle. Game time is at 1pm. The team will be leaving Saturday morning with most of the guys staying Saturday night to show South Dakota how to play rugby as well as how to win the party after the match. The Pigs took the field on Saturday against the young Duluth team ready for a big match. The weather started rainy, but by the time the whistle blew the sun was starting to come out. The Pigs started the match a little slow with the ball handling now quite there. However as the minutes progressed they showed their true form and really got the ball moving. Great work by the pack in controlling the ball and by the backs by getting the ball moving across the field. A great win for the Pigs side.
