Osh Kosh and the Bottom Feeders do not have enough people to field two sides. We will be playing one match, with three thirty minute periods. Kick-off is now at 1:00pm. Please be there at 11:45am for field setup. After setting up the field, get together in position groups (forwards/backs) and start walking through set pieces/plays. That is what we did up at Duluth.
The pigs traveled north last weekend to take on 3 time defending D2 college national champions University of Minnesota – Duluth. In typical Duluth fashion it was very windy which affected each teams attack. The first half the pigs went up 20-10 with the wind at their backs. The first points of the match were scored by the pigs on a penalty via a kick to bring the score to 3-0. Duluth answered with a try and the Pigs answered back with three tries and two points from a kick. Duluth scored a final try to finish off the half. The second half started with the wind at the Pigs’ face and Duluth was able to bring the score up to 20-20. Rest rest of the second half was largely a stalemate with one more try scored by the Pigs and immediately answered by Duluth tying the score up again at 25-25. Because this was a friendly a third half was played and new bodies were shuffled in. In the final minute of the third half the Pigs made a very long drive to score. The kick was made and the score increased to 32-25 as the whistle blew for full time. It was a very exciting match to watch and we look forward to future friendlies with Duluth. The Pigs’ next match will be May 14th details will be released soon. This Sunday, March 24th, we will be holding a practice/scrimmage with Metropolis at 10am in the West St. Paul Sports Dome. This is a great opportunity to test the skills we have been developing against a high-caliber team.
Your Saint Paul Pigs took 2nd place in the Midwest Championships. This earned them a spot in the round of 16 National Tournament. Although not coming out victorious in the National Tournament, it did allow them to move up to D2. Starting this fall the Pigs will enter two teams into league play.
Saint Paul Rugby Fans,
As an appreciation for supporting the Saint Paul Pigs Rugby team, we will be holding a fan appreciation day during our match versus the Eastside Banshees on October 1st. This is a great opportunity to come out and watch your favorite team play in their biggest match of the year. Not only will you get to watch a great game of rugby, but there will also be free food and sodas. Not to be out done there, we will have a raffle at half time where you can win some fabulous Saint Paul Rugby gear. Afraid the kids will get bored during the match? No worries, there will be an inflatable BOUNCE HOUSE at the pitch as well.
All are welcome to attend!
Following the match, those of us who are 21 can continue the festivities at the Half Time Rec in Saint Paul.
